AMAZZONI

World Première May 5–7, 2026 | Turin (IT) | Teatro Stabile di Torino – National Theatre | Fonderie Limone

AMAZZONI is a research and creation project conceived by Silvia Gribaudi that aims at the production of a performance that takes initial inspiration from the legendary female warriors of Greek mythology, to then expand a reflection on contemporaneity and on the dynamics of power on, and between, genders.

The performance features five performers, accompanied by the musical composition by Matteo Franceschini (Leone d’Argento 2019 at the Biennale Musica – Venice) and the light design by Luca Serafini.

The dancers push themselves beyond their physical limits through a series of choreographic practices inspired by female shamanic rituals. The word ‘šama-’ itself means ‘to move one’s feet’, ‘to shake one’s legs’, and by extension, to jump and dance accompanied by the voice/actions associated with animals and humans imitating their behaviour.

At its heart, the performance intends to challenge us to reconsider the role of women beyond romanticisms and cultural prejudices: it is an invitation to reconsider our preconceptions about power, gender and the role of women in shaping a more equitable and harmonious world.
